Gum Disease Laser Treatment

Laser Gum Therapy

Periodontal disease, also referred to as gum disease, is caused by bacterial growth in the mouth. If left untreated, the bacteria begin to break down the tissue surrounds your teeth, and can cause teeth to become loose and fall out. Some symptoms of gum disease include:

  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Bleeding gums caused by tooth brushing
  • Bad breath or bad taste in the mouth
  • Loose or shifting teeth
  • Formation of deep pockets between the teeth and gums
  • Receding gums

Gum disease can be prevented by daily brushing and flossing, regular check-ups and cleanings with your dentist, and a healthy diet. However, there are treatment options for those who are in the early stages of gum disease. Davenport Village Dental offers laser-assisted treatment, which provides a much less painful solution to treating gum disease.

How Laser Treatment Works

  • Local anesthetic is given to numb the teeth and gums.
  • Once teeth and gums are numb, the first pass with the laser is conducted, and perio pathogens are selectively destroyed, eliminating diseased tissue and preserving healthy tissue.
  • Hardened plaque is gently removed from the tooth surfaces with a cleaning instrument called a scaler.
  • A final pass is made with the laser, bonding the gum tissue to allow for healing.

The laser treatment is a one-time procedure, so there is no need for multiple appointments or surgeries. If you have any signs of gum disease, call your Davenport Village Dental dentist today at 512-306-8900 and treat your symptoms once and for all.
